News from the Tea Room

Posted in Tales From Our Tea Buyers.

We might be wishing the rain away here in England, but throughout the tea growing world it’s quite the opposite.

Conditions have been much, much dryer than normal. This serious lack of rainfall means there’s been a massive shortfall. Thankfully, because of the strong relationships we’ve built up with our suppliers we’re not left high and dry.

At the same time, we’ve only got a few weeks left to get hold of enough Assam before the quality season comes to an end. The mighty malty Assam is a key part of the Yorkshire Tea blend, and gives it plenty of body. Our tea buyers have been tasting sample after sample to see where the best teas are coming from and deciding how much of each to buy.

Meanwhile, we’re just approaching a really important time for the East African teas that give Yorkshire Tea its bright and lively character. So just as the incoming sample packs of Assam tea start to dwindle, there’ll soon be an influx of Kenyan and Rwandan teas waiting to be tasted by Suzy and the rest of the team.

It never rains but it pours, as they say!
